11 Buffer Alternatives for Businesses With Nobody to Write Posts

KontentFire made this page, and KontentFire is number two on the list.

The short answer: which of the Buffer alternatives fits depends on the job that never gets done. If you write your own posts and only the bill bothers you, Publer, or Buffer's own free plan, may be all you need. If the part that never gets done is writing the posts, pick a tool whose AI writes them, such as SocialBee or KontentFire, which we make. If a client has to approve each post, look at Planable or Sendible.

The eleven are ordered by fit for a small local business with nobody to write the posts, not by a score. There are no star ratings on this page, because we have not run all eleven tools.

Most prices read from each vendor's own pricing page on 29 October 2026. SocialPilot, Sendible and Metricool, and Buffer's own plan, AI and help pages, read on 2 November 2026.

What Buffer does well

Buffer is easy to use, and that is the praise we read most often. Its free plan does not run out. It publishes to 12 networks: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube (Shorts only), Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile and Substack (Notes only). And its AI Assistant is on every plan, the free one included, with unlimited credits.

What the free plan gives you

“Highly intuitive, user-friendly interface and way easier to manage from start to finish than the competition”
Reno Q., on Trustpilot

On 2 November 2026, Buffer had a rating of 4.2 from 150 reviews on Trustpilot. If the list above covers your week, nothing below this line is an upgrade.

KontentFire vs Buffer, feature by feature

Why people leave Buffer in 2026

The bill grows with every channel you add

Buffer charges per channel. The free plan covers up to three, and the day you upgrade you pay for every channel, the three free ones included. A plumber posting to Facebook, Instagram and Google Business Profile pays $15 a month on Essentials, billed yearly, or $18 month to month. Add LinkedIn and X and it is $25 billed yearly, or $30 month to month. Want an approval step? That is the Team plan, and the same three channels cost $30 billed yearly, or $36 month to month. The table in the next section runs it up to ten channels.

Posts that fail, and channels that disconnect

The complaint we read most often in Buffer's low-star Trustpilot reviews is a post that did not go out, or a channel that lost its connection and had to be linked again. If you schedule a month ahead and stop checking, a failed post can sit unnoticed. Not every reviewer sees this, and some praise Buffer for the opposite, so treat it as a reason to check your queue, not a verdict.

“Post failures occur far too often for this to be a reliable tool.”
Kristie Leong M.D., on Trustpilot, February 2026
“always not connecting my account and hard to refresh connection with accounts.”
Luis Terán, on Trustpilot, June 2026

The analytics are thin

The free plan keeps 30 days of insights. Essentials adds unlimited history, reports and custom analytics. Reviewers still say the numbers do not go deep. If a monthly report is the thing you need, Agorapulse and Sprout Social both put reporting at the center of the product, and both cost a lot more.

“Their analytics tool doesn't offer many options”
Katarzyna, on Trustpilot, October 2026

Approvals cost double, and only cover your team

Approval workflows are on the Team plan only, at $10 per channel billed yearly, or $12 month to month, twice the Essentials price. Buffer describes them as a way to "Manage who can draft and approve posts across your team." The pages we read do not describe a way for a client outside your team to sign off.

The AI drafts a caption, and nothing runs without you

Buffer's AI Assistant is on every plan with unlimited credits. Type a prompt of at least four words and it will "create a draft for you." Buffer is clear that it waits for you: "Your posts are not automatically generated, changed, or tweaked by the AI, unless you open the AI Assistant interface in the post composer or the Create space." Its AI pages describe text only, so the picture is still yours to find. No reviewer we read left Buffer over this. It only matters if the part that never gets done is writing the posts.

What Buffer actually costs in 2026

Prices read from buffer.com/pricing on 29 October 2026, and the plan details on 2 November 2026. Buffer charges per channel, so the plan price is only half the answer. The second table shows what you pay as you add channels.

The same plans, by number of channels

A month on each plan, at the channel counts a small business usually runs. Buffer's pricing page says the price per channel drops above 10 channels, so the table stops at 10.

ChannelsFreeEssentials, yearlyEssentials, monthlyTeam, yearlyTeam, monthly
1 channel$0$5 billed yearly$6 month to month$10 billed yearly$12 month to month
3 channels$0$15 billed yearly$18 month to month$30 billed yearly$36 month to month

10 channelsNot offered (3 channels at most)$50 billed yearly$60 month to month$100 billed yearly$120 month to month

The arithmetic for a local business

A roofer on Facebook, Instagram and Google Business Profile can stay on Buffer's free plan, with 10 posts per channel in the queue at once. When that is not enough, Essentials for the three is $15 a month billed yearly, or $18 month to month. KontentFire Spark is $29.99 a month, month to month, and writes the posts, but it publishes to Facebook and Instagram and not to Google Business Profile.

When Buffer costs more than Spark

Buffer Essentials costs more than KontentFire Spark from six channels billed yearly, or from five month to month ($30 month to month). Below that, Buffer is cheaper. Spark publishes only to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, so compare it with what Buffer costs for the channels you have there. What Spark adds is that it writes the post and makes the picture.

The 11 tools compared side by side

Buffer sits in the top row, because you cannot decide whether to leave a tool that is not in the table. Three columns go against us on purpose: we have no approvals for a team or a client, we publish to three networks against Buffer's twelve, and our free plan is smaller.

The 11 best Buffer alternatives, one by one

1

1. SocialBee: AI that writes the posts, on more networks than ours

SocialBee is the closest thing on this list to what we make, and on networks it does more. Its AI is pitched as more than a caption helper: it plans the posts, writes them and makes images for them.

It publishes to ten networks, Google Business Profile among them, which matters if customers find you on Google. There is no free plan. A 14-day trial with no card is how you find out if it fits.

Pricing: Bootstrap: $24 a month billed yearly, $29 month to month. 5 profiles, 1 user. Accelerate: $40 a month billed yearly, $49 month to month. 10 profiles, 1 user. Pro: $82 a month billed yearly, $99 month to month. 25 profiles, 3 users per workspace, 5 workspaces. Agency plans (Pro50, Pro100, Pro150) run from $149 to $374 a month billed yearly, or $179 to $449 month to month.

Does its AI write the post? SocialBee says: "Use AI to generate an entire social media strategy with ready-to-use posts." It also generates "captions and images with AI," unlimited on all plans. The pages we read do not say whether posts can go out without you.

SocialBee vs Buffer

Bootstrap at $24 a month billed yearly costs more than three Buffer Essentials channels at $15 billed yearly, and less than five at $25 billed yearly. Without a yearly bill, Bootstrap is $29 month to month and three Buffer channels are $18 month to month. The bigger gap is the writing: on Buffer you start every post, and SocialBee says its AI writes them, pictures included.

Where it falls short

  • No free plan. Posting stops when the 14-day trial ends.
  • Bootstrap is $24 a month billed yearly, or $29 month to month, for 5 profiles and 1 user.
  • The pages we read say nothing about approvals, so do not count on a sign-off step.

Best for: A small business that wants AI to write posts for many networks, Google Business Profile included.

Pick this if nobody has time to write, and you post to TikTok, X, YouTube or Google Business Profile as well as Facebook and Instagram.

2. KontentFire: writes the post and makes the picture, and the one we make

This is our tool

We make this one, so read the entry knowing who wrote it. KontentFire is built for the reader this page is for: a roofer, a plumber or a cleaner who is good at the work and has nobody to write the posts.

Buffer waits for you to start each post. KontentFire writes the whole post and makes the picture, then publishes it to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Set up an automation and it keeps writing and posting to Facebook and Instagram on the schedule you pick. On the Blaze plan, one set up in the Chat tab holds each post for you to approve before it goes out.

Pricing: Free: $0, no credit card, 1 post a week, 1 connected platform. Spark: $29.99 a month, month to month, 100 credits, all three platforms, email support. Blaze: $129.99 a month, month to month, 500 credits, pictures without the KontentFire logo, priority support. There is no yearly plan. Paid plans have a 7-day trial that takes a card.

Does its AI write the post? Writes the full post from a blank page and makes the picture for it. An automation can keep writing and posting to Facebook and Instagram on a schedule you set. On Blaze, one set up in the Chat tab holds each post for you to approve first. Pictures carry our logo on Free and Spark, and not on Blaze.

KontentFire vs Buffer

We win on the writing. Buffer drafts a caption when you ask for one, and you bring the picture. KontentFire writes the post, makes the picture and can keep posting on a schedule.

We lose on more than that, and you should weigh it. Three networks against Buffer's twelve: no TikTok, X, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, Threads or Google Business Profile. No team seats and no client approvals. No analytics dashboard. And our free plan is smaller: 1 post a week to 1 platform, where Buffer gives you 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel.

On price, Spark at $29.99 a month costs more than three Buffer Essentials channels at $15 billed yearly, or $18 month to month. Choose by who writes the posts, not by price.

Where it falls short

  • Three networks against twelve. If Google Business Profile, TikTok or X matter to you, keep a scheduler for those or pick a tool that covers them.
  • No team seats, no client approvals and no analytics dashboard.
  • The free plan is 1 post a week to 1 platform, smaller than Buffer's.

Best for: One local business with nobody to write the posts, on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Pick this if the part that never gets done is writing the posts, and Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn are where your customers are.

3. Metricool: a free plan that lasts, and AI that drafts the text

Metricool prices by brand, not by channel. The free plan never expires and needs no card: 1 brand, 20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics. That makes it a fair way to try a Buffer alternative for months, not days.

Its AI drafts the words when you give it a topic, and Autolists can keep recycling posts you already have. The approval step on Advanced is unusual at the price: a reviewer outside your business approves from an emailed link, with no account.

Pricing: Free: $0, 1 brand, 20 posts a month, 30 days of analytics, 5 AI credits a month, no LinkedIn or X. Starter: $20 a month billed yearly, $25 month to month, for 5 brands; $36 a month billed yearly, $45 month to month, for 10 brands. Advanced: $53 a month billed yearly, $67 month to month, for 15 brands, up to $159 a month billed yearly, $210 month to month, for 50 brands. Custom plans are priced on request. X and Advanced Analytics are sold as add-ons.

Does its AI write the post? Metricool says its AI "writes for you": you pick a topic, a tone and a platform, then "Get your post." Its help center calls the results "text proposals." Credits are 5 a month on Free, 20 per brand on Starter and 35 per brand on Advanced. The pages we read name no image generator. Autolists, on every plan, can "rotate old posts, share new content from RSS feeds, or repeat important updates" and "publish them automatically."

Metricool vs Buffer

Both have a free plan that does not run out. Buffer's covers 3 channels, and Metricool's covers 1 brand and 20 posts a month, without LinkedIn or X.

Metricool Starter is $20 a month billed yearly, or $25 month to month, for up to 5 brands. Three Buffer Essentials channels are $15 billed yearly, or $18 month to month, so Buffer is cheaper for a few channels. Metricool gives you an AI that drafts the text from a topic, and approvals that reach people outside your business, from Advanced at $53 a month billed yearly. Buffer Team approvals cover team members only.

Where it falls short

  • The free plan leaves out LinkedIn and X, and stops at 20 posts a month.
  • X is a paid add-on, and it is not on the free plan at all.
  • Approvals start on Advanced, at $53 a month billed yearly or $67 month to month.

Best for: An owner who wants to start free and have the AI draft the words.

Pick this if you want to start free on Facebook, Instagram or Google Business Profile and let the AI draft the text, with room to add approvals later.

4. Publer: the closest match to Buffer, starting a little lower

Publer looks a lot like Buffer: a free plan for up to three accounts, up to 10 scheduled posts at a time per account, and paid plans priced by how many accounts and members you add.

We could not confirm that its AI writes posts, so plan on writing them yourself. If you already do, and Buffer suits you apart from the price, this is the shortest move on the list.

Pricing: Free: $0. Up to 3 social accounts (X/Twitter not included), 1 user, up to 10 scheduled posts at a time per account, 25 drafts. Professional: from $4 a month billed yearly, or $5 month to month. 7-day free trial. Business: from $8 a month billed yearly, or $10 month to month, with "Unlimited AI prompts". 14-day free trial. Enterprise: custom price. Prices rise with the number of social accounts and members you pick. Publer's help center gives its starting prices for 1 account and 1 user.

Does its AI write the post? Its plans page lists "Unlimited AI prompts" on the Business plan. It does not say the AI writes whole posts, and Publer's AI page would not load for us, so we cannot say what the AI writes.

Publer vs Buffer

For one channel, Publer Professional is from $4 a month billed yearly, or $5 month to month, against Buffer Essentials at $5 billed yearly, or $6 month to month. The pages we read give no price for each extra account, so price your own setup on Publer's plans page before you assume it stays cheaper.

Where it falls short

  • We could not read what its AI does beyond "Unlimited AI prompts" on Business.
  • X/Twitter is not on the free plan.
  • The price goes up with each social account you add.

Best for: An owner who writes their own posts and wants the lowest price.

Pick this if you write your own posts, want a free plan like Buffer's, and want paid plans that start a little lower.

Prices read on publer.com/plans on 29 October 2026. Plan limits and networks read on 27 October 2026 in Publer's help center. See Publer's pricing page

5. SocialPilot: AI post writing, with room for more accounts

SocialPilot sells flat plans with a set number of accounts: 7 on Essentials, 15 on Standard, 25 on Premium and 50 on Ultimate. Users go 1, 3, 6, then unlimited.

Its AI is listed as writing posts, not only captions, and posts can repeat on a schedule. Approvals come in two steps: for your own team from Standard, and for clients from Premium.

Pricing: Essentials: $25.50 a month billed yearly, $30 month to month. 7 accounts, 1 user. Standard: $42.50 a month billed yearly, $50 month to month. 15 accounts, 3 users. Premium: $85 a month billed yearly, $100 month to month. 25 accounts, 6 users. Ultimate: $170 a month billed yearly, $200 month to month. 50 accounts, unlimited users. Enterprise is priced on request.

Does its AI write the post? The AI Assistant is on every plan, with 500, 1,000, 5,000 or unlimited credits depending on the plan. SocialPilot lists "AI Caption Generation", "AI Post Writing" and "AI Post Improvement". The pages we read name no image generator inside the app. On its own, it can repeat posts "daily, weekly, or monthly" and schedule posts from RSS feeds.

SocialPilot vs Buffer

SocialPilot Essentials is $25.50 a month billed yearly for 7 accounts, where five Buffer Essentials channels are $25 billed yearly. SocialPilot Essentials is $30 month to month, the same as five Buffer channels at $30 month to month. Past five channels SocialPilot costs less, and its AI is listed as writing whole posts. Below that, Buffer is cheaper and has a free plan.

Where it falls short

  • No free plan. The 14-day trial is the only way in without paying.
  • Client approvals start on Premium, at $85 a month billed yearly or $100 month to month.
  • The pages we read name no image generator inside the app, so plan on bringing your own pictures.

Best for: A business with several locations or brands that wants AI post writing and repeat posts.

Pick this if you run more than five accounts, want the AI to write posts, and are fine paying from day one.

6. Later: Instagram first, with a visual calendar

Later grew up as an Instagram planner and still reads like one. The visual calendar and the link-in-bio page are why people pick it.

Starter covers 1 social set of 8 profiles and 1 user. There is a 14-day trial rather than a free plan.

Pricing: Starter: $18.75 a month billed yearly, $25 month to month, 1 social set of 8 profiles, 1 user. Growth: $37.50 a month billed yearly, $50 month to month, 2 social sets, 2 users. Scale: $82.50 a month billed yearly, $110 month to month, 6 social sets, 4 users.

Does its AI write the post? Writes captions from a few keywords, with 5 AI credits a month on Starter. We did not see image generation on the pages we read.

Later vs Buffer

On yearly bills, Buffer is cheaper up to three channels, at $15 billed yearly, and Later Starter at $18.75 billed yearly wins from four channels up. Later Starter is $25 month to month, and Buffer passes it at five channels, $30 month to month. Later's AI writes captions from a few keywords, and there is no free plan to fall back on.

Where it falls short

  • One user on Starter.
  • No approval workflow on Starter. Later lists internal and external approvals from Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly.
  • Month to month costs a third more: Starter is $25 month to month against $18.75 billed yearly.

Best for: A business whose customers find it on Instagram.

Pick this if Instagram is where your work gets seen and you want to plan the grid by eye.

7. Hootsuite: AI that generates posts and images, at a big-team price

Hootsuite has been doing this since 2008 and connects more third-party tools than anything else here. Its AI is listed as generating posts and images, not only captions.

It also has the highest entry price on this list. When we read the pricing page it printed every price per user per month, billed yearly, and no month-to-month price.

Pricing: Standard: $99 per user per month billed yearly, 10 social accounts. Professional: $199 per user per month billed yearly, unlimited accounts. Advanced: $399 per user per month billed yearly, adds content review and approval. Enterprise: custom. 14-day trial, no free plan. The page says month-to-month billing costs more but prints no figure for it.

Does its AI write the post? Hootsuite's Standard plan lists "Generate posts and images with AI," and the AI is on every plan. Approving those posts waits until Advanced.

Hootsuite vs Buffer

One Hootsuite seat on Standard is $99 a month billed yearly, for 10 social accounts. Ten Buffer Essentials channels are $50 billed yearly, so Buffer costs about half before you count what the AI does. Hootsuite lists AI that generates posts and images, and Buffer's AI drafts a caption. Approvals cost more on Hootsuite: they sit on Advanced at $399 per user billed yearly, where Buffer Team is $10 per channel billed yearly.

Where it falls short

  • The entry price is $99 per user per month billed yearly, the highest on this list.
  • Approvals sit on Advanced, listed at $399 per user per month, billed yearly.
  • The pricing page prints no month-to-month price.

Best for: A bigger team that wants AI posts and images and the most integrations.

Pick this if you have the budget and want AI that generates posts and images on every plan, plus the widest set of add-on tools.

hootsuite.com/plans and hootsuite.com/plans/standard, read 29 October 2026. Prices are per user, billed yearly; the page prints no month-to-month price. See Hootsuite's pricing page

8. Agorapulse: the inbox and the report on one bill

Agorapulse treats the inbox as part of the job rather than a bolt-on. Publishing, engagement and reporting come on one subscription instead of three.

It is priced per user, and that is the number that decides whether it fits. Reporting is included at every tier, which is the real answer if thin analytics is why you are leaving Buffer.

Pricing: Standard: $79 per user per month billed yearly, $99 month to month, 10 social profiles. Professional: $119 billed yearly, $149 month to month, team performance reports. Advanced: $149 billed yearly, $199 month to month, advanced reporting and ROI analysis. Custom: tailored pricing, unlimited profiles. 30-day trial, no credit card, no free plan.

Does its AI write the post? Assists copy on every plan, and replies on Custom only. The pages we read do not say it writes whole posts.

Agorapulse vs Buffer

One Agorapulse seat on Standard is $79 a month billed yearly, or $99 month to month, for 10 social profiles. Ten Buffer Essentials channels are $50 billed yearly, or $60 month to month. What the extra buys is the inbox and reporting at every tier. For three people, Agorapulse Standard is $237 a month billed yearly, because it charges per user.

Where it falls short

  • Per-user pricing multiplies: three seats on Standard is $237 a month billed yearly.
  • No free plan, only a 30-day trial.
  • The AI assists copy you write. The pages we read do not say it writes the post.

Best for: A team that answers comments and messages and needs a report each month.

Pick this if replying to customers and reporting on results are part of the job, not just posting.

9. Sprout Social: buy it when the report is the deliverable

Sprout Social is built around its reporting. If you need a detailed report every month, that report is what you are buying.

Pricing is per seat, and profiles are capped at 5 on the two cheaper tiers. There is a 30-day trial and no free plan.

Pricing: Essentials: $79 per seat per month billed yearly, $99 month to month, 5 social profiles. Standard: $199 per seat per month billed yearly, $249 month to month, 5 profiles. Professional: $299 billed yearly, $399 month to month, unlimited profiles. Advanced: $399 billed yearly, $499 month to month. Enterprise: custom. 30-day trial, no free plan.

Does its AI write the post? Assists copy you already have rather than producing the post. We did not see image generation on the pages we read.

Sprout Social vs Buffer

One Sprout seat on Essentials is $79 a month billed yearly, or $99 month to month, for 5 profiles. Five Buffer Essentials channels are $25 billed yearly, or $30 month to month. Two Sprout seats on Standard are $398 a month billed yearly. Unless reporting is the job, that is a lot to pay to replace a scheduler.

Where it falls short

  • Per-seat pricing: two seats on Standard is $398 a month billed yearly.
  • Essentials and Standard cap you at 5 profiles.
  • The AI refines copy you already have rather than producing the post.

Best for: A business that needs deep reporting and can pay per seat.

Pick this if a detailed monthly report is the thing you pay for, and budget is not the worry.

10. Planable: approvals on a preview that looks like the real post

Planable is built around sign-off. The approver sees a preview that looks like the published post, with the conversation beside it instead of in an email thread.

It bills per workspace, and users inside a workspace are unlimited. There is no trial clock: the first 50 posts are free with no time limit and no credit card.

Pricing: Free until 50 posts: no time limit, no credit card. Basic: $33 per workspace per month billed yearly, $39 month to month, 60 posts, 4 social pages, 2 approval types. Pro: $49 per workspace per month billed yearly, $59 month to month, 150 posts, 10 social pages, 3 approval types. Enterprise: custom, multi-level approvals. Analytics is an add-on at $12 per workspace a month billed yearly, or $14 month to month.

Does its AI write the post? Assists captions. The pages we read do not say it writes whole posts or makes images.

Planable vs Buffer

Buffer Team gives your team approvals at $10 per channel billed yearly, or $12 month to month. Planable Basic is $33 per workspace billed yearly, or $39 month to month, with two approval types and unlimited users in the workspace. For three channels Buffer Team is cheaper, at $30 billed yearly. What Planable adds is the preview, and a sign-off step that is the whole point of the product.

Where it falls short

  • Billing is per workspace, so several brands multiply the bill.
  • Posts are capped by tier: 60 a month on Basic, 150 on Pro.
  • Analytics is a $12 per workspace add-on billed yearly, or $14 month to month.

Best for: A business where someone else signs off before a post goes live.

Pick this if a partner, a manager or a client has to approve posts, and you want them to see each post as it will look.

11. Sendible: built for agencies, with client dashboards on every plan

Sendible is built for people who post on behalf of others. Plans are sold by workspaces of 6 social profiles each, with unlimited users on every plan.

Every plan has client dashboards, where client users "preview and approve content". Buffer has nothing like it: its approvals are on Team, for team members.

Pricing: Core: $29.75 a month billed yearly, $35 month to month. 1 workspace. Plus: $84.15 a month billed yearly, $99 month to month. 3 workspaces. Premium: $169.15 a month billed yearly, $199 month to month. 7 workspaces. Elite: $254.15 a month billed yearly, $299 month to month, 15 workspaces. Enterprise: $637.50 a month billed yearly, $750 month to month, 50 workspaces. All prices from Sendible's pricing page.

Does its AI write the post? AI Assist is on every plan with "Unlimited AI credits". Its help center describes a prompt that becomes a caption, then rephrasing, hashtags and spelling. Text only, no images. On its own, the RSS Auto-poster can "Auto-post new articles from RSS feeds as soon as they're published," and smart queues repost evergreen posts "without the need for manual intervention."

Sendible vs Buffer

Sendible Core is $29.75 a month billed yearly, or $35 month to month, for one workspace of 6 profiles. Five Buffer Essentials channels are $25 billed yearly, or $30 month to month. The prices are close, but Sendible gives clients a way to approve, and the Buffer pages we read do not.

Where it falls short

  • No free plan, only a 14-day trial, and Sendible asks for a card when it ends.
  • Its AI drafts captions only. The pages we read describe text, not images.
  • Assigning posts for approval starts on Plus, at $84.15 a month billed yearly or $99 month to month.

Best for: An agency or freelancer posting for several clients.

Pick this if you post for other businesses and they need to preview and approve their posts.

How we compared these tools

We answered the same five questions for every tool, so you can compare any two entries side by side.

Who writes the post

The question this page is built on. A scheduler with a caption helper still needs you to start every post. A tool that writes the whole post, and the picture, is a different product. We read each vendor's own AI pages to tell which is which.

What it costs on both billing terms

Billed yearly and month to month, because the two prices differ. Buffer Essentials is $5 per channel billed yearly, and $6 per channel month to month.

Whether there is a free plan

A trial ends, a free plan does not. Buffer, KontentFire, Metricool and Publer have one. Planable is free until your 50th post.

Who can approve

Buffer keeps approvals on Team, for team members. For each tool we noted whether anyone outside your team can sign off, and on which plan.

What it publishes to

Networks, not feature counts. Every vendor here names its networks on its own pages. Buffer covers 12. We cover 3.

Who made this page. KontentFire made it, and KontentFire is entry number two. We did not put ourselves first: SocialBee also writes the posts and publishes to ten networks, Google Business Profile among them, where we publish to three.

How the order was set. By fit for a small local business with nobody to write the posts, not by score. A low price and an AI that writes the post moved a tool up. KontentFire sits above SocialPilot, which also writes posts, because KontentFire has a free plan and makes the picture; SocialPilot has no free plan and names no image generator inside the app on the pages we read. Tools built for teams, reports and agencies sit lower, because a business of one rarely needs them.

Where the facts came from. Most prices were read from each vendor's own website on 29 October 2026. SocialPilot, Sendible and Metricool were read on 2 November 2026, the same day we read Buffer's plan, AI and help pages and the Buffer reviews quoted here. Network and feature details come from the vendor pages named in each entry. Where a vendor did not say something, the entry says so instead of guessing.

What we did not do. We have not run all eleven tools. We publish no ratings and no scores. The reviews quoted are reviews of Buffer, word for word from Trustpilot, and we have none of our own to quote. Weigh the page with that in mind. We used the same method on our Kontentino alternatives page, and KontentFire vs Kontentino covers that tool feature by feature.

Which Buffer alternative is right for you?

Two of these rows say Buffer may be all you need, because for those jobs it is.

You run a local business and nobody writes the posts
KontentFire or SocialBee
KontentFire writes the post and makes the picture for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, free to start, then $29.99 a month on Spark. We make it. SocialBee says its AI writes whole posts with images and publishes to ten networks, from $24 a month billed yearly.
You write your own posts and only the price bothers you
Publer, or stay on Buffer
Publer starts from $4 a month for one account billed yearly, or $5 month to month. With three channels or fewer, Buffer's free plan may be all you need.
You want to start free and have the AI draft the words
Metricool
Free forever with no card for 1 brand and 20 posts a month, with 5 AI credits a month. Starter is $20 a month billed yearly, or $25 month to month.
You post to Google Business Profile, TikTok or X
Stay on Buffer, or SocialBee
KontentFire publishes to none of them. Buffer covers all three from $5 per channel billed yearly. SocialBee covers all three and its AI writes the posts, from $24 a month billed yearly.
You run more than five accounts
SocialPilot
Essentials is $25.50 a month billed yearly, or $30 month to month, for 7 accounts, with AI post writing on every plan. Five Buffer Essentials channels are already $25 billed yearly.
A client or partner has to approve each post
Planable, Metricool or Sendible
Planable runs approvals from $33 per workspace billed yearly. Metricool lets an outside reviewer approve from an emailed link on Advanced, from $53 a month billed yearly. Sendible gives clients a dashboard to approve on every plan, from $29.75 a month billed yearly.
A monthly report is what you need
Agorapulse or Sprout Social
Agorapulse includes reporting at every tier, from $79 per user a month billed yearly. Sprout Social is built around its reports, from $79 per seat a month billed yearly.
Instagram is the whole job
Later
$18.75 a month billed yearly, or $25 month to month, with a visual calendar and a link-in-bio page.

Switching from Buffer: what to check first

1. List the networks you actually post to

Count the networks you used in the last month, not the ones you connected once. If Google Business Profile, TikTok or X is on the list, rule out any tool that does not publish there, ours included.

2. Save what is in your Buffer queue

Your scheduled posts live inside your Buffer account. Copy out anything you still want to post before you cancel or downgrade.

3. Check your renewal date and billing term

If you pay Buffer yearly, the year is already paid for. Look up the renewal date in your account so you switch before it, not the day after.

4. Connect each account again and post one test

A new tool needs its own connection to each social account. Connect them one at a time and send one test post to each before you trust the schedule.

5. Run the new tool alongside Buffer before you cancel anything

Buffer's free plan does not run out, and neither do the free plans at KontentFire, Metricool and Publer. Publish from both for two weeks and compare what actually went out.

FAQs about leaving Buffer

What is the best Buffer alternative?

It depends on what is not getting done. If it is writing the posts, look at SocialBee, from $24 a month billed yearly, or KontentFire, free to start and $29.99 a month on Spark, which we make. If it is approvals, look at Planable, from $33 per workspace billed yearly. If it is reports, look at Agorapulse or Sprout Social. If Buffer works and only the price bothers you, Publer starts from $4 a month billed yearly.

Is there a free Buffer alternative?

Yes, several. KontentFire is free for 1 post a week to 1 platform, with no credit card. Metricool is free forever for 1 brand and 20 posts a month, without LinkedIn or X. Publer is free for up to 3 accounts, not including X. Planable is free until your 50th post. SocialBee, SocialPilot, Sendible, Later, Hootsuite, Agorapulse and Sprout Social run trials of 14 to 30 days instead.

Is Buffer free?

Yes, for up to 3 channels. The free plan gives you 1 user, 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, a community inbox, 30 days of insights and the AI Assistant. Paid plans start at $5 per channel a month billed yearly, or $6 month to month.

Which Buffer alternative is cheapest, or not priced per channel?

If you can live inside a free plan, Buffer's 3 free channels and Metricool's free brand cost nothing. On paid plans, Publer starts lowest, from $4 a month billed yearly for one account, and rises with each account. Flat plans that do not charge per channel include Later from $18.75 a month billed yearly, Metricool from $20 a month billed yearly for 5 brands, SocialBee from $24 a month billed yearly, SocialPilot from $25.50 a month billed yearly for 7 accounts, and KontentFire Spark at $29.99 a month, month to month.

What is the best Buffer alternative for agencies?

Sendible and Planable. Sendible gives clients a dashboard to preview and approve posts on every plan, from $29.75 a month billed yearly, with unlimited users. Planable bills per workspace from $33 billed yearly, with approvals on every paid plan. SocialPilot adds client approvals from Premium at $85 a month billed yearly. KontentFire is not built for agencies: it has no team seats or client approvals.

Which Buffer alternative has the best analytics?

We have not run them side by side, so we will not crown one. Agorapulse includes reporting at every tier, from $79 per user a month billed yearly. Sprout Social is built around its reporting, from $79 per seat a month billed yearly. Metricool keeps 30 days of analytics on its free plan and sells Advanced Analytics as an add-on. KontentFire has no analytics dashboard.

Is Buffer still worth it in 2026?

For many people, yes. It is easy to use, the free plan lasts, it covers 12 networks and the AI Assistant has unlimited credits on every plan. It is worth a second look if your bill keeps growing with each channel, if a client needs to approve posts, or if the posts are not getting written at all.

Are there Buffer alternatives where AI writes the posts?

Yes. SocialBee says its AI can generate "an entire social media strategy with ready-to-use posts," with images. SocialPilot lists "AI Post Writing". Hootsuite lists "Generate posts and images with AI." KontentFire, which we make, writes the whole post, makes the picture and can keep posting on a schedule you set. Buffer's AI Assistant drafts a caption when you open it, and Metricool's AI drafts text from a topic.

Which Buffer alternative is best for a small local business?

If you run a trade business with nobody to write the posts, start with a tool whose AI writes them. KontentFire, which we make, writes the post and the picture for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, free to start and $29.99 a month on Spark. If customers find you on Google Business Profile, SocialBee covers it and writes posts too, from $24 a month billed yearly. If you write your own posts, Buffer's free plan or Publer may be all you need.

How does KontentFire compare with Buffer?

Buffer is a scheduler whose AI drafts a caption when you ask. KontentFire writes the whole post, makes the picture and publishes it to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Buffer covers 12 networks, has team seats and approvals on Team, and a bigger free plan. Our comparison page goes through it feature by feature.
